TOP 10 ENDANGERED AFRICA SERIES

EMERALD

LEGACY

My Endangered Africa Series is a ten-part collection created to raise awareness of the species standing on the edge of extinction. Each painting tells the story of an animal whose existence hangs in the balance, reminding us that conservation is not only about preserving wildlife, but about protecting the delicate web that connects us all.

The Eastern Lowland Gorilla, also known as Grauer’s Gorilla, is the largest of all gorilla subspecies. Native to the forests of the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, their population has fallen by more than 75% in the past few decades due to habitat loss, poaching, and conflict mining. Less than 3,800 remain in the wild.

EASTERN LOWLAND GORILLA

Endangered Africa Series

Part 1 of 10

Deep within the emerald rainforests of the Congo Basin, the Eastern Lowland Gorilla endures - quiet, powerful, and profoundly vulnerable.

Emerald Legacy captures the strength and soul of this critically endangered species, its calm gaze emerging through cool light and drifting forest haze.

Every brushstroke was built to honour its presence, from the velvety depth of their fur to the subtle reflections that speak of intelligence and empathy. Painted in oils with layered glazes and soft atmospheric light, this piece invites the viewer to pause and meet the eyes of a creature fighting for survival in a world that’s rapidly closing in.

Through Emerald Legacy, this magnificent species is immortalised in paint — a symbol of resilience, gentleness, and the urgent need to protect what remains of our natural world.

A tribute to the Eastern Lowland Gorilla — the largest and most endangered of all gorilla species
