Into Dust

The first in my new series of equestrian landscapes, ‘Into Dust’ captures the majestic beauty of wild horses in motion.

Painted in oils, this piece is one of my larger canvas paintings, inspired by the vast and striking scenery of the Yellowstone National Park in Montana. I was captivated by the sweeping, cinematic shots of the landscape whilst watching the Amazon Prime show Yellowstone. I became mesmerised by the wild horses roaming - untamed, beautiful and free - and I knew I wanted to capture those moments.

The inaugural painting in this series, ‘Into Dust’ depicts a herd moving through the golden haze, their forms slipping in and out of dust kicked up around them. The composition is layered, with warm highlights catching the light, and cool shadows dissolving them into the landscape.

I am deeply inspired by both wildlife and breath-taking scenery, and I wanted to incorporate both into my work. This piece sets the tone for a growing series focused around movement, light and shadow; capturing moments that make you feel a connection to both the animals themselves, and the awe-inspiring land they inhabit.

Into Dust is where it begins, and I hope you’ll come with me as this series unfolds.
