Jewel of the Canopy celebrates the vibrancy and soul of one of nature’s most striking creatures. I was drawn to this macaw for its boldness — not just in colour, but in spirit. It radiates energy, life, and freedom, like a living flame cutting through the greens and shadows of the rainforest.
This painting is all about contrast: light and dark, motion and stillness, wildness and precision. I wanted the colours to sing — the kind of palette that pulls you in and holds you there. But beyond the beauty, this macaw represents something more personal for me: the magic of wildlife and the joy of being surrounded by it, even if only through a painting.
I paint to evoke emotion — to honour the natural world and our connection to it. With Jewel of the Canopy, I wanted to bring that sense of wonder indoors. A moment of rainforest splendour, a spark of wild colour, a reminder of how joyful and alive the world can be when we pause to look.
